MedScope Medical Alert System Review

The MedScope medical alert system is a personal emergency response system manufactured by the Wynnewood, PA-based MedScope. The technology gives users immediate access to medical help in the event of a health emergency. MedScope currently supplies the medical alert system to home health care agencies and to professionals who are looking after aged and disabled people.

How It Works

The MedScope system comprises of a base unit and a small radio-transmitting device with an embedded panic button on it. When a user presses the panic button, the transmitter sends a signal to the base unit. The signal activates the base unit, which then dials out to MedScope’s 24/7 Response Center. A trained operator at the response center receives the alert, checks on the user’s status and immediately calls in emergency help if needed.

MedScope Base Unit

The base unit of the MedScope medical alert system features a two-way speaker and a powerful microphone. It allows the user to speak with an operator and to receive instructions from the operator in an emergency. The unit plugs into any standard telephone jack or DSL modem line. The base unit comes with a battery backup that allows it to operate for up to 24-hours without electricity.

Lightweight Panic Button

The panic button is a lightweight, 4 oz. device that can be worn as a pendant around the neck or as a bracelet around the wrist. The device is completely waterproof and can communicate with the base unit from a distance of up to 800 feet away. So, a user does not necessarily have to be inside the house or close to the base unit in order to use the device.

Cellular Option

MedScope offers a cellular option for customers who do not have a phone service. The MedScope cellular medical alert system functions exactly in the same manner as the standard system. However, the base unit features a built-in cellular capability that allows the unit to make emergency calls over MedScope’s cellular network. All that a subscriber needs to do to use the MedScope cellular medical alert system is to plug the base unit into any standard electrical outlet. The MedScope cellular medical alert system is completely portable and can be used anywhere within the U.S., without the need for any phone service.

Pricing Information

Unlike many other operators of personal emergency response services, MedScope charges one flat price of $35 per month for its services. The price includes the base unit and one panic button. Subscribers who want more than one panic button can request additional buttons during the signup process. MedScope does not charge extra to monitor multiple people under one MedScope medical alert system account.
